On my 4.2 that tab goes into a cut out on the bearing cap. (I didn't look at my block).
I would expect that a 4.0 is the same.

Do you have a Factory Service Manual for your year Jeep?
Let us know how it goes.

Good Luck, L.M.

Aka “tang”, “locater tab”, “alignment tab”. It should line up with an indent, i cant really see from your pic on my phone. If it doesn’t line up, I wouldn’t use it. It theoretically helps to keep aligned during crush.

Those are not the correct bearings for the 4L. All 4L Main Bearings have a center tang. I'm not sure what Summit sent you.

Do you have the thrust bearing on the correct journal? It goes in the middle of a 4.0, not in the back like a v8.

I looked at my 4.2 block (Builder motor, current totally disassembled). The 4.2 block has the cutout for the locating tang. You might have 4.2 crank bearings, rather than 4.0 bearings.

Send them back and get the correct bearings.

Good Luck, L.M.
