reverse lights, annoyed

So the reverse lights on my 04 TJ 5-speed with the I6 are not working.

things Ive checked:
#7 fuse
Replaced the reverse Light switch
bulbs seem to be good.

I am not getting any power to the bulbs via the purple wire in the tail light enclosure and there doesn't seem to be a purple light running back from the trans to the wiring harness. which wire in the harness is powering the reverse lights. all the other lights in the tail lights work. annoyed

Not sure if it's changed since mine is a "99", but on mine it is violet/white to the reverse light switch, then violet black between the switch and the reverse lights.

I think it's the same but I can't seem to find where it runs from the trans to the back harness

First see if power from fuse 7 (key on) is getting to the switch & out through the switch when in reverse which is the violet/black wire & I’m pretty sure it runs forward from the trans up to the firewall & crosses over to the driver’s side then through the firewall into the cab where it runs back under the door & up along the top rail of the tub to the back. There is a spot where the harness goes behind the engine where the engine is very close to the firewall & sometimes the harness rubs & gets damaged there & it is hard to see. Any wire(s) in that harness can be affected so it is unpredictable. I think that b/u wire is in that harness so take a close look there.

Doesn't seem like I'm getting power to either the purple white or purple black at the switch. I'm not good at electrical so I may just be rigging up some lights out back

If you have no power to the purple/white wire check fuse 7 with a meter or swap it with a known good fuse. Sometimes they look good but are blown. Also check that you have power TO the fuse terminal when the key is on.

Then you are losing power between the fuse block & the switch. I think the wire follows more or less the same route as the wire from the switch as described above but in reverse. Fuse block over to the left kick panel, through the firewall, across & down to the trans. Somewhere near the PCM before it goes down to the trans there is a splice & it splices & goes into the PDC. Possible that the splice is bad & you are losing power to the b/u switch there if you are sure there is no power getting to the switch.

Can someone tell me or post a photo of where the switch is located on a manual transmission? Thanks.

I've been through 3 reverse light switches in the last year and I just noticed the that it's out again. I guess it's time to buy a mopar part and not get the $10 switches from amazon again.
