Ring and pinion teeth chips?

I have an odd question, I am posting it for a friend. My friends rear end blew up not too long ago in his XJ. It has the d35. He was a bit hard on it , on dry pavement. Anywho, what happened was the bolts snapped off the ring gear. Everything else is fine, spider gears all look good, carrier looks good, axle shafts fine , etc. However on his ring gear there are a few chips in the teeth. He wants to find out if a few small chips, could be okay to re use or if he needs to spend out the money and buy new parts. I had a look at the pinion gear, and there is no noticeable damage which i find strange. However the ring gear clearly has 3 teeth with about 4 mm chips. What do you guys think? Also he managed to get the broken bolts out of the ring gear using an extraction tool.
