RPM Question?

2000 TJ Sport. 4.0 litre engine, 3 speed 32RH auto transmission. Dana 30 front axle and Dana 35 on rear. 3.07 rear axle ratio. 31X10.50 tires on stock rims.

What should I be seeing rpm wise at 60 mph?

According to the Dana Spicer rpm chart 2050rpm @ 60mph.

Use this gear calculator rather than a chart, it will provide more accurate results and let you do some "what if" calculations: Gear Ratio Calculator

Which is about where you wanna be if you had OD, or a few rpm less. I was under the impression all 4.0's had 3.55 or 3.73 gears. My old Jamboree edition CJ7 came with 2.73's. Kinda scratched my head on that one.

All 4.0L TJs (non Rubicon) came with either 3.07 or 3.73 gears, except 1997 which had the 3.55 option. It doesn't matter if they're auto, 5 or 6 speeds. I've had them all.

Nope. Just the 1997 4.0L TJ as an option. Lots of XJ 4.0s have them though.

3.73 - 1998-2006

* Standard ratio used with most 4 cyl automatics

4.10 / 4.11 - 1997-2006
* Standard ratio used with 4 cyl 5 speed manual

4.56 - 2003-2006
* Standard ratio used with 4 cyl automatic

It's possible someone swapped in a 4.0 axles. Maybe he needed a D44.

It was bone stock with low miles when he got it... we swapped in 4.56 gears and put it on 33's

I have a 2001 Sport 4.0 that came from the factory with the 32RH auto and 3.07 gears. The PO put 31/10.5R15's on it. I haven't used them up yet. I'm between 2000 and 2100 RPM cruising at 60 mph.

It drives fine around town but I think 3.73 would be better off road, pulling hills, & for passing on the highway. I've been keeping my eyes peeled for any local deals on used 3.73 axles.
