Smell after changing heater core

I changed my heater core a month ago and ever since then when I first turn the heater on I get a strong odor for a couple minutes.
Only thing I can compare it to is when I got grease on my muffler and it slowly burned off. I figured maybe I got something on the heater core and it would go away after a few miles, but a month later it's still here. Has anyone else experienced anything like this when they've changed their heater core?

Smell after changing heater core

Mine smelled like hot evaporating anti-freeze for a while after my heater core change. Cleared up after 6 months or so and a dozen air fresheners...

You could always take the Jeep top off. Less smell and if the weather there is like here, at -22F, you’ll have different issues to deal with.

LMAO. -22 degrees. No thanks. It took 6 months to get rid of the smell?!?!? I think this weekend I'll take a road trip on the freeway and see if that helps burn it off...

I don't think that's normal. Maybe it was coated in something while it was kept in storage? Did you also clean the box, when you took it apart?

I changed mine and I did not have any smells. It was smelling before the swap, when the old one was leaking.

I got the core from Quadratec. There were no instructions and nothing about cleaning the core before installing.
I did wipe out the box real good because there was antifreeze in it. Maybe just not good enough but it doesn't smell like antifreeze.
Did you change any of the foam seals when you did it?

No, I just cleaned the antifreeze and the dirt, swaped in the new core and put it back together. No funny smells.

Maybe it's a coincidence that it started smelling after the heater core replacement? Maybe you have something else inside the ducts? I got one of those cheap eBay snake cameras, that connect to the phone, maybe borrow/get one to take a look inside the air ducts?

Thanks for the suggestion. I Ordered a camera from Amazon. It was only 20 bucks. Surprised me Will be here today and I can look inside.

Heater core smell

I have a similar issue with mine. changed the heater core, cleaned out the box. the PO had bypassed it for the summer. It smells when first gets hot but it seems to fade over time. It doesn't smell like antifreeze, its more like a burning almost electrical smell. I noticed it from the first time I fired mine up. I wonder if its the epoxy that they use to glue it together.

That's exactly what mine does. How long has yours been installed? I thought it would go away after a few days, but no luck. I used a snake camera, but didn't see anything unusual. When I emailed Quadratec, all they basically said was "take it to a mechanic".

If I have time this weekend I'm going to bypass the heater and see if the smell is still there or not. if it is then I'll look other places. If not then I'm going to tear the damn heater box out change out the core again

I put mine in in October, the smell has dissipated over time and seems to be temperature related. You can bypass the core if you want but turning the temp selector all the way to cold will accomplish the same thing. Mine only smells when the core is hot. Seemed to take about two months to go away for me.

Would you say it is completely gone?
I was going to bypass the heater core to completely eliminate it as the cause.
If I can verify that it is the heater core then I hoping I could exchange it under warranty.
If I can just drive around another month and cook it off I'll do that, but I don't want to deal with it forever. It has gotten better than when I first changed it
