starter or solenoid?

When I turn the key, I can hear the click (single click .. not multiple when the battery is low). Is there a way to check the solenoid?

I know 100% it is not my battery because I just got a new Sear's Diehard platinum like a week ago. Starter was giving me problems before the battery change as well.

Also, is there a starter repair kit available at some stores? I checked NAPA, Autozone, Kragen but they only have the starters not the repair kit.

Any recommendations on where to get the starter (if I need it)?

Jump underneath and beat on the starter with a hammer. See if it starts. They are not that hard to change, I would say get a new one.

Ok ... Got a new one from NAPA ($115) and installed it. Everything works perfectly! Seems like this new starter is pretty strong. It turns the engine a lot faster than the old one.

You can jump the solenoid to see if its the starter or the solenoid. Being I just got a jeep im not sure what style is on it and I cant go look real fast as the wife took it to work again. She has been driving it more then I have. I am starting to notice a trend.

Anyway yes like old chevy's you can try the tap on the solenoid stuff also. When she gets home Ill climb under and give you a more descriptive way of trouble shooting it.
