Steering binding...feels heavy

Hi guys, ive had my TJ for a few years now, its a 3rd car for us and i don't drive it much. I've noticed that the steering feels like its binding. When im driving and i turn the wheel, it doesn't come back. Meaning im sawing back in forth on the wheel to keep it straight. It makes highway driving a challenge. I've greased whatever fittings are on the front suspension, but no change. Could it be a lower ballpoint that's causing this? The Ujoints on the shaft look look fine. i need some direction.

Could be anything, but my first guess is your toe is way off. Only say that because if you had a bad ball joint or other component gone, you would probably wobble, and toe is what tries to keep your tires pointed forward and not 'floating'.

The best thing to do is get it into a shop and on a lift. Failing that there are a lot of youtube vids on how to test your front suspension in your driveway.

Also check your axle shaft u joints. Raise the front, turn wheel as far as it will go and spin the wheel. Do this on the same wheel with the wheel to right and left. The u joint in the axle can get old and bind at full lock.

I had this in my TJ and it made the steering feel “lumpy” while turning. Worth checking as it is free and easy.

It doesn't happen at full lock. And i never had a ball joint issue, i just figure it could be a possible cause since it holds a lot of weight at that point.
