Subwoofer replacement for my center console

So I went to the local stereo shop and they said there is no replacement speaker for my center sub. What is the best thing to put back in there to get some good sound. I don't like putting another box in the back

i ended up biting the bullet and getting this:

Quadratec Exclusive TJ REPSUB - Replacement Center Console Subwoofer for 01-06 Jeep¬ģ Wrangler TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec

it's expensive for what it is, but is a direct replacement... didn't have to screw with amplifiers or wiring, and it sounds better than the original.

What they should have said is that they don't carry the replacement sub for your center console.

I ended up ordering the Quadratec replacement yesterday. You can buy an off the shelf sub and modify the console plus add and amp which I wasn't interested in doing

That Qtec replacement is over priced and from posts on it, it's not that good. The only modification is trimming/breaking the plastic fins inside. I don't know what is the current recommended replacement model. There were a couple Kicker models. Lots of posts on it.

I went with a Pyle...believe it was 4ohm, it has dual voice coils. I'm good with the sound...won't win any sound competitions but fills in the lows nicely. Very minor trimming in box to make it fit.

Can you provide the model number for the Pyle sub?

It's a PLPW6D. It is a dual coil 4 ohm. Has 4 terminals like the factory. FYI, if you connect it and don't get much sound at all, reverse one pair of wires. If one is backwards, one coil cancels the other.

Thanks I'm going to pick one of those up. I like that it is 4 ohms as it gives the tiny factory sub amp a chance to survive. I think Pyle speakers usually sound surprisingly good. I run a set of Pyle 4 inch mid woofers, with the factory tweeters in the dash. They seem to carry more base than the 5.25 original speakers and were a direct bolt in to the factory enclosures on my 05 LJR.

side note...if anybody is replacing their factory setup and has the stock amp available...I would be interested in it. I believe mine is shot and I put in a quadratec replacement a few years ago.

Does anybody know how to test the amp to see if it is good or bad? I tested the harness plug for the amp and I am getting power.

I went with the Pyramid 6.5 from amazon. Cost all of 12 dollars or so. For the money, it sounds pretty dang good

I put a Kicker CVT65 in my stock sub enclosure. Had to trim a little plastic out to accommodate the depth of the sub, but it fit in the stock enclosure after that. I run the sub with an old Coustic amp mounted under the steering column

I went custom all the way and my Jeep sounds great--top up or down! I had a custom box built for the center console (and an 8" or 10" sub placed within) and have two amps mounted under the rear seat. Now everything is out of sight and sounds great.

I also went with the Kicker CVT65. It provides some nice lows and you can actually tell its there when you're going topless/doorless. I went kickers all the way around replacing the sub the front dash speakers and the sound bar speakers. Now everyone can hear lynyrd skynyrd while I'm going down the highway.
