swapping old style turn signal switch for newer style with fog lights

Hey guys n gals, i have a 97 tj 4.0 with the pull out style light switch, no fog light plugs/wiring from factory. i just picked up a 2001 tj with the newer style signal/wiper switches with fog lights, and am wondering, is it possible to swap mine over to the newer style and have my jeep wired for fogs, and ditch the pull out style light switch? Like i said, i do have the whole parts jeep to rip apart, i’d just like to do this upgrade with as little hassle and tearing apart as possible. i don’t know if anyone has done this or how hard it would be, so any help or info be awesome. thanks

Anything is possible...

Expect to do a LOT of cutting, splicing, and wiring.

That's what toggle switches are for. Way easier to go this route.

so i think after further research i’m just gonna go with the toggle switch. i have a black plug in the dash next to my hardtop wiring, which i believe is the fog light pigtail. would it be as easy as buying an oem a fog light switch, plugging the switch in, then swapping the headlight/horn main harness that goes through the grill to the parts jeep one with fog lights? or what else is needed in addition to what i’ve assumed/figured out?

I would suggest that you just wire your lights up w new wiring, a switch, and a relay.... easy, cheap, and better than trying to source and use factory wiring

If you want them to work just like factory fogs, hook your relay ground to your high beam positive and power your switched signal wire to the relay from your parking lights

My factory fog switch will not stay in the off position and I don't want to bother with trying to pull it apart for the fix posted on the forum or paying $$ for a new one. When I am ready for new fog/driving lights, I plan to wire a relay as you suggest above. It is not a difficult project, but thanks for documenting the cheat-sheet notes on how-to! Will be helpful!
