Switch illumination

I added a couple accessory switches from Ebay that match the factory switches on my 2004 TJ. I had trouble locating the switches in the dark as they are not illuminated like the factory wiper and defrost. I did some searching and found others had the same problem.

I took an idea from a Ridgeline I used to own that had a light that shown from a hole near the rear view mirror that illuminated the center console area.

I drilled 4, 1/8" holes above the new switch locations, see photos. This could have been 2 holes but the first LEDs I tried were much dimmer.

Hot glued 4 LEDs from Amazon(see link, they have them in smaller quantities but I have other projects in mind) to the top of the switch bracket above the holes. I also put in a piece of reflective foil as the first LEDs had been too dim, this was not needed.

Wired LEDs into the orange and black wires already behind the panel for other factory options so LEDs come on with the lights and are dim-able.

As you can see from the photos they work great! Ended up being brighter than I had originally planned but this gave me the added bonus of putting a soft glow on the cup holder area so I can find thins in the dark. They are not distracting and you can't see the source of the light just it's effect.
