Sye oil seal

My 05 LJ has a sye. I need a oil seal for it. I don't know the manufacture. I have a # on the old seal. F494. Does any one know what that crosses over to?

Most of the seals are same as stock. However, I have a Currie SYE and they have their own seals... I spent a nightmarish month finding that one out. Is it the flange style that bolts up to the ds?

It's not the same as stock. It has a yoke that bolts on.

Where did you get your seal?

Currie Enterprises CJ Axle Parts

Does this look like your SYE? They sell the seals alone on their site as well

I had to replace this 4 days ago and the rugged ridge seal from the factory they sent me did not fit. Just so happens I've got freinds with lots of spare parts. Not even sure what it comes from but no leaks in 4 days and fits like a glove.

That looks alot like the Currie exclusive seal to me. I had to bend mine and tweak it to minimize the leak while waiting for shipping, thats why I bought 2.

No joy. I spent 15 minutes trying to cross reference that p/n you gave in all the various seal catalogs like SKF and Chicago Rawhide but I couldn't find anything. Can you double check that seal for an other numbers beside the F494 you already found?

You might get lucky if you try comparing that seal with the pinion seal from a Dana 44 and Dana 35c at your local auto parts store. Or axle shaft seal from a Dana 44. Such seals like was on your SYE output shaft are commonly reused at other points in the drivetrain.

Maybe this helps.

My jeep already had they SYE installed. So I don't know what brand it is. I am going to call the PO tomorrow.

Is it possible it was rigged for your Jeep by the PO? I spent a while at my local six states and found a couple that were close but would have needed some tlc.

Yes
Any autoparts store should have it. Call before the brand I got was National that fit my Rugged ridge standard SYE. I'm betting it will fit yours. $8-$12 is worth the try and you can exchange it.

Thanks.

I know that the PO had the jeep built at a local shop. If I cant find it at the parts store tomorrow I'll go to the shop that built the Jeep.

If the driveshaft is pulling seals it is very possible that your rear driveline angles are off or that the driveshaft has not been greased properly.
