Arrow TJ T-Case Question

I have a 2002 TJ with a 4.0 and a NV-3550 5 speed trans, will the T-case out of a 2001 XJ with a 4.0 auto work in my rig? I'm pretty sure they're both 23 spline but read on here someplace on a post where input length is different on my 3550 than other trans'? Any correct input would great as I need to try this next.

All I can think of is to try Googling for the length of the 231's input shaft for the XJ's AW-4 transmission vs. your NV-3550.

I do know my 231's input shaft made to bolt up to my previous AX-15 was too short to seal the output shaft of the 32RH automatic I converted to. The 32RH leaked ATF like a sieve. I had to install an extended output shaft into the 32RH so it would seal leak-free against the too-short 231 input shaft.

Either advance adapters or Novak has a nice listing but basically ther are three lengths two tooth cuts and two spline numbers for the input/sun gear

First early vs late tooth count
Early 231241and 242 transfer cases about 94 or 95 and before have a different tooth cut on the sun input planet gears and the case mounted ring gear
Newer 231 241 and242 have a different tooth cut and you cannot mix old with new as gears don't mesh smoothly

Next there are three different input length and best to get right length for your tranny of choice

Lastly jeep used two different spline counts and Chevy yet another and spline count must match tranny output

So you need a proper length input sun gear with a new style tooth cut and that can come from a tc in a xj or ZJ as well as a wrangler but spline count must be correct

If you have your old transfer case swapping the input/sun gear ito the new case is very easy as long as both are same gear cut
