unable factory wires for 3rd brake light

Helping a friend with his 2004 Jeep Wrangler...Been stored for some time.
Rats have chewed factory wires in rh tub for 3rd brake light contacts on tub.
Following older posts :Tried to find or see wires from below wheel well as suggested...No good...Have liner loose but unable to get hand or see the two plugs... or feel any wires ...No wires on plugs when checked topside.
Question: If tap into existing wires on RH brake/turn light can you use one of the several convertors used to wire a trailer and just use it for the CHMSL?
Not sure how to wire it if it possible...
thanks in advance

Not really as the tail brake light does different things depending on turn signal position
You don’t want your third brake light flashing whenever you signal a right turn

The trailer converters I think you are referring to are designed to combine the turn and brake signal from 2 source wires into one output wire and still allow the flashing turn signal to override the brake signal.

There is a single wire feeding the taillight for both turn and brake signal. There would be no way to eliminate the turn signal for use as CHMSL.

Or even simpler
But you have to tie in to both left and right tail stop wire

It is a white/tan wire from the brake switch that goes in the harness under the driver’s door to the back. It is not clear in the FSM but I assume it crosses to the right side under the tub along with the other wires for the right taillight. You should be able to find it somewhere back there & extend it as needed to the button terminal on the tail gate opening. The other button gets grounded so that can be grounded any convenient place near there. That original wire is black.

Here is a look from the FSM. Note that it looks reversed & the right side is to the left & you can see the harness comes from the left side.

Not backwards. The illustration is from underneath. Viewpoint is somewhere under the passenger seat. Note the arrow indicating "front".

It's weird that they would do it that way, but from the indicated perspective, the drawing is correct. Maybe they did it like that because the wires would be visible from under the vehicle if nothing was in the way.

Good Luck, L.M.

Check rear passenger light area , its up there .
on mine the white and black wires were reversed from what you see going into the tailgate.

Bring a power tester and check to make sure.

All vehicles of any kind, type, model are always, always viewed from the driver's seat looking forward. So that picture is absolutely 100% correct.

That's false.... a diagram can be drawn from ANY vantage point.... in this one the veiwer is quite obviously behind the vehicle looking through the bumper and rear sheet metal

Sorry guys. If you lay on the ground under the opened passenger door, that's the vantage point in the drawing.
You're looking through the frame, axle, exhaust and gas tank.

I'd worry if we agreed on everything. I still like you too.
Sometimes we have a different point of view. (pun intended).

No, it isn't. The perspective is as one is looking into the right, rear wheel well from below.

Isn't it a little difficult to view the rear of the vehicle "from the driver's seat looking forward?"

Seems a little odd to me that the rear bumper would be the thing closest to the veiwer who was anywhere except behind the vehicle

The side of the bumper depicted is the front side. The viewer is looking rearward and upward from the right side of the vehicle.

Now that you point that out, it is logical as when you have your head underneath on a crawler, that is the view you will see.

I think you are correct.

The drawing of tub looks oriented correctly. It does not appear to be looking at the tub from underneath... The wheel wells curve the way you would see them looking into the cargo area and the bumper is below the body, where it should be. If it were supposed to be from the point of view of what you would see if you crawled underneath, the wheel well would be curving the opposite way.

But the wiring in the diagram is backwards... There is nothing that says the FSM are 100% error free. I bet somebody pasted the wiring par of the diagram in backwards when they added to the generic sketch of the back end of the tub. The button contacts for the third brake light (along with the right tail light assembly) should be on the right side of this diagram.

They would be on the right side when viewed from the rear. When viewed from the front as depicted, the right side of the vehicle appears on the left side of the picture. The picture shows the inside of the left rear corner, the outside of the right rear corner and the bottom side of the rear floorboard. And the front side of the rear bumper.

Doesn't it also seem a little odd that the bumper brackets are clearly visible? And on the same side of the bumper as the viewer?
