What am i geared at?

I recently bought a 4 cyl TJ with 33s, and it seems to ride pretty well. Is there anyway i can tell what it's geared at? How would i know if the previous owner regeared?

Correct me if Im wrong someone but I believe alot of the 4cyl came will 4.11's but the only true way to check to see if the previous owner changed them is to pull the case..

There should be a tag on your rear diff cover at the 9 oclock position that will have some numbers on it, it should say 3 73 or 3 07 for whatever gears you have. If you want to see if the PO regeard then jack up the rear end and turn one wheel, watch to see how many revolutions the driveshaft does to one full revolution of the wheel. If the DS goes around 3.75 times, then thats 3.74 gears, and so on for other ratios.

Both wheels have to turn 1 revolution to count driveshaft rotations. Easy to do with a helper or a posi. Or jack up 1 wheel and turn it two complete turns, counting driveshaft rotations.

or, you turn one wheel 2 revoulutions and count as one. The easiest way is to turn one wheel (open dif) 20 revolutions and count the drive shaft revolutions (use a helper)and devide by 10. For example if you turn the tire 20 times and the driveshaft turns 41 times you devide 41 by 10 and get 4.1 which means you have 4.10/4.11 gears.
