87 Yj Possible Axles?

I am needing to get a new front axle for my 87 Yj laredo. It is 4wd. What all axles would work in this rig?

Bolt in axle?

Or fabbing up and welding on brackets?

For Bolt-in - just another YJ Dana 30 with the same gear ratio. That's your only choice.

Yes bolt up. I have the 3.54 year ratio. Called a scrap yard and he had one but was asking 575 dollars. Isnt that a bit steap?

Yep, sounds high.

Make sure whatever you buy has 3.54 gears in it. Double and triple check and don't trust the junkyard. Best would be to open the pumpkin and count gear teeth. I wouldn't necessarily trust an axle tag

There's also car-part.com

No, not even close. Its got coils, control arm suspension and shock mounts are different, sway & tracbars are different too (just for starters). Plus, it could be a low pinion D30 and it could be a non-CAD axle.

There's 1 axle in the entire world that will bolt right into your YJ & that's another YJ axle - period.

I'd double check on that. I know a Cherokee HP D30 is a direct bolt on for a TJ. Not sure about the YJ though. Id look a little further into it. With a little fab work Im sure you could get it in

Well, Ive been doing a lot of research and it seems that a yj dana 30 is impossible to find. I am considering the 8.8 swap depending on how complicated it is. Any input on that?

I know there's a good Sticky thread on the 8.8 swap. I believe its titles "so your considering the popular 8.8 swap" or something similar. That should have most the info you'll need

Well the D30 is up front and the 8.8 is for the rear.. are you planning on changing both? There's a sticky thread about doing the 8.8 with all the info you need. Where are you located? I'm about to pull the D30 from my YJ and sell it.. and if you're looking for a cheap replacement D35 for the rear, I'll be pulling that too..
