There are videos all over the internet of stock jeeps doing river crossings and heavy water holes. My 89 4.2 6cyl, on the other hand, does not like water. Driving on wet roads or heavy rain it bogs down and i lose all excelleration until it dries out. When im off road if i get in any kind of water tire deep it will stall and not turn over for about 15-20 min.

What should I check and/or replace? any good Fixes?

instinct wants to say its not loose or electrical connections because it feels (and sounds) like its suffocating and it doesnt always stall...but i could be wrong.

If it bogs only when wet/damp then it's most likely electrical. The list is long: Wires, dist., cap, coil, grounds, battery cables, Ignition Control Module, computer, etc. If moisture gets between any of these and the connections you will lose conductivity and the engine will bog down. Check and clean all of your connections. When was the last time you changed the wires, cap, rotor, etc. Moisture may be affecting the Ignition Control Module, causing a problem with spark. You're going to have to start eliminating from the easiest and cheapest on up the chain.

It is also possible that if your fan blade hits the water it is slinging it on to your air filter. I have heard stories of a well placed chip bag fixing the problem of the splash, I have never tried it I have MPI :punk: but they say if you cover the front part of the air filter with a bag that it keeps the water spray off of it. and it will still suck air from the back part. I have never tried this though so don't stone me if it didn't work.
