87 YJ 4.2 w/ auto tranny
Recently purchased and shifted good until I took it off road.
Tranny will not shift when it warms up.
No problem moving the shifter column through the gears but will not do anything.
When I shut it down and let it cool down it works.
I tried to check fluid level but it was hard to tell on the dip stick.
I added fluid but does the same thing.
Also, what fluid does it take?
Hey dude change ur filter and fluid and replace two of those bottles of tranny fluid with lucus tranny repair fluid 2quarts.
Works almost every time if that doesn't fix your problem change your shift solinoid
To much fluid can blow out your seals be careful. Also you could put on an aftermarket cooler for the tranny. But a fluid and filter change should fix it.
So far it has been working just right.
Changed the filter & tranny fluid with lucus tranny repair fluid 2quarts.
The filter was really dirty. I only take it off road.
Same problem here as the OP, yet mine was serviced this past January. This is not a daily driver and I've only put 950 miles on it since then. Besides fluid the shop also added 1qt "Lucas Trans Additive". Is that the same as "Repair"?
I plan to flush and replace the filter myself. Will 2 qt's, of Lucas Repair, make a difference over just the one?
BTW, I have a new Hayden Trans Cooler still in the box collecting dust. Would it be a good idea to install it at the age of my Jeep (178k miles) or bad?
I think Lucas tranny repair is different than additive.
I would use 2 quarts cause of the miles & new filter.
Trans cooler would be a good move, again cause of the miles.
Are the 2 qts of Lucas in place of 2 qts of trans fluid?
