Engine swap

Hi, just for fun and maybe future reference has anybody swapped out their 2.5 or 4.0 Wrangler YJ engine for a Chevy 283 V/8 ? Not a 350 but the 283. I have a 283 completely rebuild and sometimes have a vision of doing it. Not that I will just wondering😄

Steven

I have a completely rebuilt 283, stock save for a mild torque cam and 500 CFM Edelbrock carb.
It came with the Jeep when I bought it (but rebuilt it after the purchase).
It does OK, gets really crappy mileage, and struggles on the hills. Lots of down shifting. My next project is to regear the rig with 4:56s from stock 3:73 (?). Way too tall for this little motor.
I can't say that the 283 would be my choice to go out and purchase for a swap, but if I had it laying around, and were willing to change the gears, unless you already have 4:10s, I might.
For me, I think I would consider something bigger. Like a Ford V-10
If you're gonna swap, may as well go HUGE

Angry

I don't hang around here much any more. So tired of screen jumps, constantly asking if I want to sign up for some crap or other, and asks me to log in at every screen change. Just tired of it.
Sorry.

I don't get any of that stuff. I access the forum from several different computers (work/home) and from the phone and never have that. Maybe you are just lucky.

I agree with your previous comment. the 283 would certainly not be the best choice for a swap, but I'm sure it is better that the 2.5.

I wouldn’t swap out a 4.0 for a small v8 like a 283. More work than it’s worth. Might as well and easier to just build a stroker 4.0.

Sorry.

I'm using Chrome on a desktop PC with Webroot. Even before I became a supporting member I never had any problems with signing in or popups.

Some posters have reported issues with popups and other posters have suggested that becoming a supporting member should resolve the issue.
I don't know for sure if it will or not, but I became a supporting member because of all the help I've received here, without the BS that some other forums allow. For me, the cost of a yearly or 5 year membership is a bargain compared to what it might have cost me to get my Jeep to the point it is.

Good Luck, L.M.
