flat tow a chev 350/350 auto

Can any one tell me if you can flat tow a chev 350 with a turbo 350 auto trans. Thinking about this set up but need to tow behind RV 1989 yj with true neutral and auto locker up front.

If you have a true neutral transfer case, sure you can.

You'll get differing opinions on this undoubtedly, however the same rules should apply to your T350 as a AW4 auto in a wrangler. Trans in park, T case in neutral. That is provided yo are running the stock 231 T case. IIRC, a D300 T case cannot be flat towed a there is no oil slinger or pump internally. Be careful on hill parking and unhooking. I had rear hubs on my CJ and just about put it thru a neighbors house on accident when we unhooked it from the tow vehicle.

Agreed mostly depends on what transfer case you have

As above... assuming you will be running a 231 w true neutral then trans in park and t case in neutral same as a stock 32rh (wrangler never had an aw4) or for that matter same as a manual trans except it gets put in a forward gear since it doesn't have park...

Not to hijack this thread but, My YJ has the 5.3 LS and 4L60 tranny, 231 tcase that came with the jeep in 1991. I haven't flat towed it yet but I was told by my mechanic i should put both the trans. and tcase in neutral to flat tow. I do also have the Detroit True Track up front and the 8.8 posi 411 in the rear. So what is the difference with putting trans in park or neutral?

That 'mechanic' gave you terrible advice

Never put the trans in neutral to flat tow because it won't be properly lubricated without the engine running to turn the pump just behind the torque converter

Also, find a new mechanic

Just asking....If the TC is in neutral, why does an auto trans need lubrication?

Good Luck, L.M.

It doesn't IF it's in park or in gear....

If the trans is in N then the output shaft will be spinning and thus need lubrication....

Even w the tcase in N with the rear driveshaft turning at 2-3k rpm there is plenty of drag to spin the trans output shaft quite fast if allowed....

This is the reason that every wrangler owners manual specifies that the trans not be in N to flat tow.

Gottagofast,
Now it all makes scene. If im understanding you correctly, when the trans is in park it doesn't rotate but with the TC in neutral only the drive shafts rotate leaving the trans alone? so there is no movement within the trans?
