YJ front drive shaft

Is it necessary to have a CV joint installed on a new shaft build or just use stock 2 U-joints, mine is lifted with 38's. I probably won't beat on it that hard.

I put one on, used off a TJ. Installed new U joints and couldn’t be happier. It just smoothed out the drive line. jmho.

You really only need a CV front shaft if you have a axle disconnect delete so the front shaft spins all the time. I ran one on my YJ for a few years and it worked well but the driveshaft angles were perfect for it and it ran smooth. You also need to replace the front yoke on the t-case with the proper CV yoke. I used a yoke off a XJ that had a CV front shaft. The CV yoke is a different length than the non CV yoke so you need to measure for a new shaft with the right yoke.

Also i have heard of front TJ CV's rusting up and seizing and busting the t-case in half. You need to keep them well lubricated and the joint moving freely or you could end up busting the t-case.
