Engine swap help

My brother just brought me a 89 wrangler that someone started to do an engine swap on and didn't get too far. From what I know they pulled out a 4 cylinder and dropped in a strait 6 from a 93 Cherokee. At this point I have power to the dash but unsure about the engine compartment. I do know allot of the sensors and senders have different plugs, not too sure why this is being it is supposed to be the harness from the motor that was put in. Right now my goal is to get the engine to turn over using the key then I can progress forward. I guess my first question is does the jeep itself have a clutch safety switch or should it? I cant seem to find one anywhere. Also does the alternator need to be installed for the ign to work? Any help would be great.
