p.o. welded spider gears

Dana 20, looking for options. Drove it over the weekend and it wasn't that bad after you got to know it but tires are expensive. Not a daily driver but will see some asphalt from time to time. Doing research on gear change but can't find much on replacement after they have been welded..

Dang, well, I guess I'd open it up and take a look. The idea would be to get them out without damaging the carrier, so possibly grinding the welds off, or cutting the gears apart maybe? I'm assuming the pin will come out and the axles will slide out. Maybe a complete carrier from a junkyard then put your ring gear on it?

I'm guessing you mean an AMC model 20 rear. If the gears are welded shut its a bit of a ticking time bomb on the road. The two piece shafts are notorious for coming apart and failing spectacularly. The housings are also known for cracking/flexing. This is a long way of saying not to invest too much in the AMC 20. The junkyard might be your best bet. Good luck.

No matter which axle the jeep has..
Unless the PO was a complete idiot and a butcher.. a welded diff...aka.. Lincoln locker will not effect you from doing a gear change.
A welded diff only means to weld the spider gears together and when done correctly everything will still be able to be disassembled as normal.

Let's go wheelin!ô
