Just recently purchased a 79 Cj7. It's steers great in 2wheel drive, when I drop it in 4high or low it won't go anywhere but straight. Any suggestions on what maybe the problem? Thanks y'all and jeep on.

You are describing the handling characteristics of posi traction in a front axle. PO either installed some type of locker or welded the spider gears inside your front differentials.

2x. Jack up one side of the front axle and put the t case in 4x2. If the jacked up wheel will not move, it is either locked or spooled. It isn't that unusual to find this as those vehicles are driven on-road with the front hubs free.

The biggest problem I see with that is you can't stay on the road on snow or ice in 4x4-when you need it the most. But if you live someplace snow free it's a moot point.
