03 X tire upsize - need help

i have a 2003 wrangler X with a 4.0L, 5 spd, and 3.73 gears. i wanna get bigger tires but i dont wanna go too far and lose acceleration and city MPG. i searched the forum for answers but all i found was a tire size calculator that didnt seem to be accurate. i dont think it factored in the 5 spd.

i would like to go with 31's but as i said i dont wanna lose the pep that i love about the 6 cyl. anyone out there have a similar setup or know of a better ratio calculator? thanks in advance for any help yall can give.

For what it is worth---'04 Sport, 3.73's (added OME lift but was not needed) 5 speed--it is not a race car but to tell the truth I couldn't tell the difference between the 30's that were stock and the 31's that I am running now. As far as gas mileage and acceleration. I am an old man so don't "hot rod" a lot--but it will get out of its own way. I can drive over 250 miles on a tank and frequently get upper teens for mielage around town and 20-22 highway.

Am on my 3rd set of 31's jeep has 143k on it.

sorry for the late reply. internet not set up at home yet...

30's are stock on a wrangler? mine has 225/75 R15's on it and if i remember right i measured them at 27 inches or so. i am a bit of a lead foot but its my daily driver so i dont beat the piss out of it. i just dont want it to be a limp rag while im driving through town. after a bit of research combined with your advice i think a good choice would be 30x9.5.

thanks for the reply

30's were stock on my sport-but that is not the only size tires TJ's came with--just a heads up.

well you have 3.73's and a 5 spd just like mine. do you have the 4.0L as well? as long as you have the same specs as mine i should be fine with 30's or even 31's
