16" ProComp 7069

I have a '17 JKU and am trying to get some new wheels/tires installed. I am being told that a 17" is the minimum size I will need for the wheel to clear the calipers due to being a newer model JK, is this true? Thanks in advance!

Most 16" will clear the factory caliper, but you will be limiting yourself on brake and tie rod upgrades which require a minimum 17" wheel.

As an example here is a YETI tie rod with a 17" wheel, you can see how tight the tolerance is.

Well there are probably more popular sizes and choices in the 17’s. I have Teraflex rotors and calipers with 17’s and it’s tight. Personally, I’d go with the 17’s.

The 16's fit just fine with stock components... The issue comes when you start adding aftermarket tie rods, brakes, etc. The 16's do give more sidewall which looks good to me, and tires and wheels are both less expensive.

There are more options in 17's... It's a tradeoff.
