30x9.5x15 to 235/75/15

I want to move from a 30x9.5x15 over to a thinner 235/75/15 tire for the interstate. I have stock canyon 15 x 8 wheels. A tire shop tells me I cant do this because the canyons are too wide for the 235's. Does that sound right? If so, is there another size that might work? Thank you.

canyons arent to wide for the 235s, 30x9.50s are only 1 inch taller and barely any wider..a 235/75/15 is like a 28.9 x 9.40 i think..i had 235s before my 31x10.50s that i just got a few weeks ago..you'll be fine..dont think your gonna notice much of a difference whatsoever from moving down that small of a size...id just stick with your 30s..goin down that little bit isnt going to help gas mileage or power at all

^^^^ This. You're gonna have to do a lot of driving to save enough in gas to pay for new tires that will make your Jeep look like a weenie.... Think about it. If you save a gallon every tank, that's $3. How many tanks is it gonna take to pay for those tires?........ 200? That's a lot of tanks of gas... could be a couple years.

not to jack a thread...but i was just calling around and getting some tire prices. i want the 30's in the grabber AT2. on and out the door there gonna be around $570 or so. Then the guy tells me there on back order from general. 4 other place i talked to said the same thing for that size. Anyways...he says how bout just getting 235/75's instead. it shows there 29.2" tall and 9.3" wide. So there really isnt a difference in size unless you have a tape measure. The major difference is there only $510 on and out the door. Just my 2 cents but i think im gonna go w/ the 235's to save some money since I cant get a lift yet...
