33 or 31? 10.5 vs 12.5 ?

Hey everyone, it is almost time for me to start looking into some new shoes for my jeep! It's a 97 TJ with the 2.5L 3spd auto and a 2.5" BDS lift. I currently have BFG A/T 31x10.5xR15 on the rims that are in the attached photo. Thanks for any advice!
My questions are:
  1. Will I damage anything if I run 33's? (stock axles)
  2. Will my current rims support 33x12.5? Or should I go with 33x10.5?
  3. Recommendations of tires for this?
  4. Or should I just stay with 31"?
Thanks!

Or is there a 32" tire that is possible?

You can get 32x11.50

What sort of driving do you do? That will influence any tire recommendation.

There is only 1" height diff between a 31 and a 33 (all tires do not run true-to-size, either... sometimes a 33 is 32.5, sometimes it's closer to 34)

You'll not damage anything, but the load of a heavier 33 with a 2.5L may be felt.

Those rims are too narrow for anything bigger than a 9.50... you might get by with a 10.50, but better off with at least an 8" rim width

I usually just drive it around town, it's not my DD but I do like to take it through some minor trails. So I should look into the 33x10.5? the 10.5 runs fine with my 31's right now. Sucks having a 7" wide rim

Since you have a lift, can you get wider rims with a different offset?
You may find a buyer for your wheels and tires to help fund any "upgrades" :-)

33x10.50 are an acquired taste - some love them, some hate them.. They are referred to "pizza cutters"

Don't forget gears if you go 33s I'm running 33x12.50 with 4:56 gears 2.5l and is manageable but I couldn't even imagine stock gears

Yep, your gearing will suck on 33's. And like said, that wheel is too narrow for anything wider than a 10.50 wide tire. If you're intent on running a 33, go with a 33x1050x15. BFG KO2's or KM2's offer that size, and they run smaller than advertised.

I know its different for a JK but would i be able to run 33x11.50 on a stock (2015)jk with no problem? if so how far would the wheel possibly stick out on stock rims? and if I got rims with 4.5 backspacing would then stick out a little? if anyone has pictures I would be very appreciative

Tire fitment has a LOT of factors, including the owner's tolerance for rubbing, scuffing, and driving habits/environments.

This link should help: https://www.wranglerforum.com/f27/lar...er-142837.html
