Aluminum rim painting

Anyone painted aluminum rims before? I have some on my tj, don't like em very much. Think I'd like em more if they were black.

Yup I did. Personally I highly suggest duplicolor wheelcoating. Youll want duplicolor standard sandable primer. Duplicolor wheelcoating in the color of your choice. And then the duplicolor clear wheel coating to give it that nice finished look. Prep work is key so sand them down realll good with 100 gritt then rinse with water let them dry really good. Finally use a prep wipe on them and start shooting the paint in nice even thin coats until the whole wheel is completly covered. Wait about 10 minutes in between coats. Doing it this way youll avoid nasty drip marks. Heres a picture of mine.

You need to use acid etching primer on the rims first. It sticks to the aluminum like glue.

Think this would be a better idea than buying new black rims? Don't wanna ruin the rims.

I just sprayed duplicolor bedliner on mine. I really like the way they came out.

I painted mine last August and they still look great! Go with Rustolium paint, Duplicolor sprays on like crap.

I've done it all and at the end powder coating has the best result as far as looks and durability.
