BFG KO2 34/10.50-17 (not a 34 dia tire)

I brought a set of BFG 34/10.50-17 KO2's and replaced the "Mud-Terrain T/A KM" that came with our 2014 Rubicon. I was told I was going from a 32" dia to 34" dia tire. Again of 2" inches......Awesome!

However, what I found was very interesting.

BFG advertises the tires as follows:
LT255/75R-17 is a 32.1 tire dia.
34x10.50R17/D is a 33.5 tire dia.

I had trouble setting my speedometer using GPS as speed, and Bully Dog Platinum GT as changing the tire size. Once I got it set the size was 31.75 dia for the 34x10.50R17/D tires size. I measured the height of the tire with weight on it and it measured 32 inches.

The tire dia difference from the stock tire was only 1 in, and the rpm difference was only 100 rpm lower. That is not a 2" tire size change.

My concern is BFG is selling a 34/10.50-17 advertise its dia as 33.5 inchs.

However, the tire measures 32 inches and the set dia on the programmer to correct MPH is set at 31.75 dia.

I can confirm it is only 1" dia taller tire from stock tire, a lot of money for a 1" taller tire.

That seems like a VERY big difference from advertise?

Comments? Thoughts?

yup been saying the same thing for several months. it is a well known issue. Funny thing is I have read posts where people claim they are 33"..mine are 32". great winter tires. I swap back and forth between these and toyo 35's.

I'll call BFG, it seems like false advertising.

Yep. It's too bad those 34x10.5s are so short. I'd be all over them if they were a true 34".

However - if I followed your post correctly you are comparing the 255 diameter without the weight of the jeep to the 34x10.5's with the weight of the jeep, no?

comparing both stock 255 bfg and 34 on the jeep there is about an inch difference. which really only gives you .5" of additional clearance. I really like mine but man if they were an honest 33.5" I would really love them.

BFG advertises the tires as follows:
LT255/75R-17 is a 32.1 tire dia.
34x10.50R17/D is a 33.5 tire dia.

Measuring the tires on our wrangler the 255's had 14,500 miles on them and they measured 30.5" to 31". Measuring the 34's on the vehicle, new tires, all 4 tires measured 32".

Yes you do get a good 1" in dia increase .5" on the radius.

Per BFG-Michelin how to measure the tire dia:

My spare tire is mounted on a 2014 Rubicon wheel 17"x7.5".

Measuring the outside circumference and converting to diameter, this are the findings on a unweighted new BFG 34/10.50-17

0 psi is 103.750" converted to 33.024" dia

60 psi is 104.0625 converted to 33.136 dia.
