Budget rubbers

I hate to be that guy, but I want to throw some new tires on my girlfriend's jeep while she is at work.

Trying to put a decently aggressive tire on her stock JK, that gets decent tread life. I have searched and searched, and googled reviews for each etc...… and I came up with 2 potential sets of tires.

Here is what I found, but I can't decide what ones to pull the trigger on.

285/70R17 Centennial Dirt Commander M/T set of 5, $760 (I think there is tax? it's Ebay….. shipping is free) These seem to get pretty favorable reviews around the internet, but I'd have to get a local shop to install them, so not sure how much that would be, probably $20/tire

Other ones are

Achilles Desert Hawk X-MT 305/70R17 119 Q

These are wally-world specials, and five of these would be about the exact same price at $748 plus tax. I have never gotten tires (or really anything else for that matter) from WalMart, but I guess they have a shop there, and they can do the install? Either way, 'shipping' would be free to one of the local WalMarts, then I would be at the mercy of whatever they charge to mount/balance.

So, I'm obviously not looking at the crème-de-la-crème of jeep shoes, but she does mostly daily-driver duties (and she doesn't drive that much honestly) and after our last off-road adventure (which broke my jeep ironically enough) she wants some new tires to go out there with me, and it's a bit of everything.... rock, mud, and some sand/mud/water/dunes area.

Is it a coin flip, or does anyone have a good/bad experience with either of these tires?

Don't know anything about either of those tires, but at that price I'd be looking at the Patagonia in either of those sizes. Also available at the Wally World. LINK

The 305/70 is a no go on a stock Jeep... The 285/70 is borderline and likely will rub a little with stock wheels.

The best "stock Jeep" direct fit size is 255/80-17.

Is a 265/70/17 a safe choice?

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Milestar-...-Tire/55190059

285 was a maybe, and 255 was a “yes”. So is this considered a 32” tire?

Doesn’t matter much. Whatever I get her will be better than what she has, but I’d like to sneak some new tires on for her soon.

Would still like to get her out to the off-road park with me

265/70-17 is actually one of the stock sizes, so it is a safe size. I consider it a 32" tire, and it came stock on Back Country's and Winter edition's, along with a few others.

Like Guzzi said, you're good.

Check out this thread for some great info on tire sizes LINK

Thanks. Kept reading that but still got confused.

Hopefully these look much better. I put on flat fender flares for her and the tires on it look like they are woefully undersized....... Don’t mind a bit of rubbing but would like it to get through some trails

265/70/17 is GTG. The issues you may run into on budget tires is balancing. How much weight will it take to get them to wear evenly? Do they have a mileage warranty?

If it were me, Milestar Patagonia M/T 265/70/17. Stupid cheap for an amazing tire. Ive had them and there is an entire thread here on them. Looks, balances, wears and performs awesome.

Wallyworld: $574 for 4 tires: https://www.walmart.com/pac?id=7318a...antity=4&cv=10
