Dick Cepek Trail Country EXP 295/70/17

I found a nice deal on a set of Dick Cepek Trail Country EXP, 10% off, $100 DC rebate, no tax and free shipping! 295/70R-17, E rated, but they have 2 ply sidewalls and this size is listed at 58 lbs. Hoping for a soft riding E rated tire. I had been tempted really hard to get the same size in Milestar Patagonia's for awhile since they get rave reviews. EXP's are considered a hybrid tire.

These DC's will replace my Falken 285/70/17's which roll on my ATX wheels I got from DTD a couple yrs ago. I'm once again really tempted to finally get Method Roost wheels in bronze for my new DC 295/70/17. Comments requested!

Tires aren't mounted yet, but here's a few teaser pics. Looks to be an easy 1" taller and the same width as my current tires, but the new tire isn't on a wheel yet so its not an oranges to oranges comparison... yet. Very large mud lugs on the edge of the contact patch. Made in USA.

@Digger70

Got them at Simple Tire online. Pretty impressed with the buying experience there. I've always been loyal to DTT or Tirerack, partly because of their stock and price I suppose.

Great tire, I sell tires as a part time business. The Cepek is made by Cooper, has a 45k warranty and have a silica tread compound. The two ply sidewall helps reduce cost and shouldn't be an issue for normal use. I have sold about 5 sets of these so far and have a set in my shop for my 3500 ready to go on in 285/65r18.

If it's a 2 ply sidewall, it's built like the Deegan 38's. The tread pattern is a spin on the Cooper S/T Maxx. I would expect this to be a good tire. I ran the Coopers for years, but the 3 ply E from Cooper is a really stiff tire.

The advertised weight was about 58lbs in the size I got, but hopefully I can weigh them myself soon. That, along with the "sidewall poke test" lol I typically do, leads me to believe these will not be too stiff like some other E-rated tires. Currently obsessing over which new wheel I want, then these tires will be rolling under my Jeep. My plan is to go back to an 8.5" width, 0 offset, 4.75 backspacing to keep the tires within the wheel wells a little more. Currently on 17x9, -12, 4.5 wheels.

I'll go ahead and post up the wheel I have in mind, in hopes of getting some feedback from the wheel whores around here. XD 135 (KMC) Grenade 17x8.5, 0, 4.75. Black OR Bronze. Removable "real" black bolts around the faux beadlock ring. 29 lbs.

1.) All Black with Black faux ring

and a 20 sec video of Black

2.) Bronze with Black faux ring
https://www.kmcwheels.com/product/wh...atte-black-lip

and a short vid of Bronze (enjoy the elevator music! lol)
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...0&&FORM=VRDGAR

3.) Or Method Roost in Bronze. Decisions, decisions!

Thanks @TheBoogieman . I've always wanted the Roost from day one, when they started selling them, in 2015 iirc. But this time I went a different direction with Mammoth General Matte Black Wheel, 17x9, 4.75, -6. 26lbs.

https://www.extremeterrain.com/mammo...ustomer_pics-2

Minimalist kinda look. Supposed to be hub centric for our Wranglers. Liking both the looks and the specs too. My tires won't extend beyond the fenders as much as they do now with my heavier 17x9, 4.5, -12. From eyeballing MY unmounted 295/70 compare to my mounted 285/70, the tread (not the section or total sidewall width) is not any wider on the 295's and maybe even bit narrower. That means more tread under the fenders, which is a good thing since that's want I want.

The Roost may be an option again, someday.

Wheels showed up today. Thanks to @jarshumi I went with Mammoth Generals 17x9, -6 and 4.75. Look'n forward to getting my Dick Cepek tires mounted when I can get time. Really impressed with the price and look. Gonna weigh one before mounting. They came with black center caps but the other Mammoth center caps obviously fit too. Chose blue.
