I just bought them, waiting for them to come. 285/75/R16

My mother's boyfriend owns a service shop and sells Falkens. He said he would reccomend anything the company makes.

You must mean the Airborne thing? I'm out. I was in 10th Special Forces Group on Ft. Carson. Great times, wish I could go back.

Falken's AT tires are great. Last fall I put some serious off-road stress on a set of their AT's in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming and they practically begged for more. These would be a great option for a DD even if you hit the trails.

In rain and snow they do great! Two weekends ago I had my LJ in the mountains just outside of Prescott, AZ. We got about 9-12" of snow over the weekend. Here's what it looked like the morning before we left:

I've got a set of Falken AT's on my LJ. They powered right through this like it was nothing.

This weekend I am headed to Tierra Del Sol to see how they do in the So Cal Dirt and desert.

I actually bought them through Discount Tire. He couldn't get the Rocky Mountains, and Discount Tire had a great special running this week. He had the High Country's for a good price, but from what I read online, the Rocky Mountains are the same.

I have had my Faulken Rocky Mountain's for about 3000 miles. No off road driving but they did great in the ice and snow we had here in Texas just before the Super Bowl. They are also great in the rain. I am most impressed that they are super quiet on the road. They are even quieter than the original tires.

Mine are 285/70/17.

I stopped by Discount Tire and looked at some Wild Peak AT tires. They looked like well made tires. The larger tires were made in Japan and the smaller 15's were made in Thailand. Too bad the sidewall was only two ply. Are the Rocky Mountain and Wild Peak the only offroad tires that Falken makes?

They make an all terrain that is a bit less aggressive called High Country All Terrain. I looked at the sidewalls of my tires and they are 3 ply sidewall, tread is 6ply and they were made in Thailand.

Actually, the Wild Peak and Rocky Mountain AT sidewalls are no joke. They are tough as nails. Only a select few sizes have a 2 ply rated sidewall. Most of them have a 3 ply rated sidewall. I'll post up some specifics shortly. I have emailed Falken for the information.

Next time you are in a Discount Tire store pinch the sidewall of a Rocky Mountain or Wild Peak and then pinch the sidewall of any other tire in the store I seriously doubt you'll find a tire with a thicker sidewall. I run 325/70R17's on my LJ and before I installed them on my wheels I compared the sidewalls to, even, a competition BFG Krawler tire and the sidewalls of my 325/70R17 Wild Peaks were significantly thicker.

By the way, the sidewall on the 16 seem thicker than the 15. There wasn't much of a selection at Discount Tire, so I went to look at the GY Duratracs and MT/R tires around the corner at the Goodyear Dealer.

I'm still waiting on a spec sheet from Falken but your local Discount Tire can order Duratracs if they don't have them in stock right now. Its impossible for any retailer to stock every tire at all times.

I'm looking forward to the specs on the tires. I liked the fact that the larger tire was made in Japan, as the Japanese make good quality products. I understand that Discount can't stock every tire, but the selection was rather sparse for a tire store. Maybe your other stores had a larger selection of off-road tires.

Ok, I heard back from Falken and all of the P-metric and all 15" sizes have a 2-ply sidewall. All of the LT sizes (with the exception of 15") have a 3 ply sidewall.

*They don't have the sidewall specs on the 35X12.50R15 yet.

Would I let this stop me from purchasing a 15" Wild Peak if I wheel my Jeep? Absolutely not. I say, put them to the test. I have yet to hear a complaint on the tires performance off-road (in any size).

The lack of a three-ply sidewall is a deal killer for me. The seem like very good AT tires, but I'd rather have the insurance of a thicker sidewall. That being said, I will most likely buy a my set of tires from Discount. Thanks for the information. Have a good day!

Glad we can help Arch. I know Falken is actually having their sidewalls tested by a 3rd party right now so hopefully we'll see get to see some of their results.

Hey Airborne, what kind of wheels are those on your Jeep? Also, you're running Falken ATs? I really like your setup.
