Falken Wildpeak M/T review

I had a hard time finding a comprehensive review of these tires out in the wild so Iím hoping this thread will help others that are looking into these tires. I know they havenít been out too long so thatís probably part of the reason. Iím running 15x10s on a Rubicon TJ and decided to run a 33x12.5 size. Cost from Discount tire at this time is around $178 per tire for this size.

My experience for comparison comes from putting about 15k miles on a set of KMís on our JK with several off road events and trail rides, beach rides hwy miles etc over the last year and a half and a set of Maxxis Bighornís I had on my TJ Rubicon that these are replacing. The Bighorns were not in the best condition due to age and were on this jeep when purchased in December. I do not know the mileage on them at the time of replacement but they had plenty of tread left. They wandered a bit and were noisy on the highway, great grip in mud and sand though from the one run I made with them on local sandy/muddy trails we have down here. I put about 100 miles on them before deciding I wanted to try something else.

Initial impressions: At the time of posting this Iíve put around 120 miles on the Wildpeak M/Ts. I picked up a set of 5 from a local Discount Tire for what I consider to be a great price for what you get on paper. I drove them 40 miles home in mixed hwy/interstate conditions and they were light years ahead of the old Bighorns in terms of control and noise. They are also have less noise than the KMís on our JK and I like the tread pattern.
So far, Iíve only had a chance to do about 4 hours of trail riding on them and my initial impressions are that they did very well. The trails I ran them on were extremely muddy with sharp rock sections and some very soft sand in other parts. If youíve been to the Jeep ranch and were out there for the feb. run, I did trails 1, 2 and 4 with them. I didnít need to air down to do these trails in my somewhat limited opinion but I did bring it down to around 18 PSI just to see how theyíd do in the soft parts and to see how much give was in the sidewalls. They shed mud easily and I never felt the tires were lacking for grip in most sections. I was even able to dig my way out of a few tough spots where a lot of the lighter duty guys had to be pulled out due to conditions. This was not the weekend to be running all terrains.

I have not had a chance to test them in the rain on the road yet.

So far, I really like them. I see no obvious flaws with them and for the price they did everything I wanted to do and I never felt like they were lacking. They also ride nice and seem very quiet on the road for the type and size of the tire. Iíll try to keep this updated as I put miles and trips on these things and note how they wear.
