Help me choose backspacing!

I'm in the market to pick up some 33x12.5r15's and I'm debating on the backspacing I want. I personally don't like tires sticking way way out so I'd like to keep the backspacing within 3.75-4.5" I've read that 4.5" is the minimum you can run without rubbing, is this true? Ultimately I'd like to run 4" Metalcloak flares and have 80-90% tire coverage. I'd take some measurements myself but the jeeps in the shop!

Honey, we need to know what size tires you want to run..... 4-4.5" is perfect for a 12.5" tire on a TJ.

First sentence, 33x12.5r15s. From what I've been poking around 4" seems pretty good. If anyone has pictures of various backspacings it'd be sweet

I would look at 4.25-4.50 if you want them more inside. However depending on the design, tread block etc of tire, not just the size, you might get some rubbing. I had some rubbing with stock control arms with my 12.50's on 3.75bs with TSL super swampers..

I'm still torn on what to decide. I've found some nice wheels right in my price range but they are only available in 3.75" BS and are on sale until the 30th (2 days left to choose!) If 3.75 will look like a skateboard I'll just keep looking.

Ideally I want to be able to cover most of a 12.5" wide tire with 4" metalcloak overline fenders/flares (0.75" wider than stock flares) to reduce spray and gravel from kicking up at my doors while not limiting my flex or turning radius too much. I'll post anything I else I find

Thats not going to happen.

This is an 11.5 inch wide tire on a rim with 4.5" backspace.
Rubicon flares are 1" wider then stock flares.

You're definitely right on that one. After I posted I crunched some numbers based on my current BFG 31x10.5 fitment (clears fenders perfectly) and stock Ravine 5.5" BS wheels. Essentially the Metalcloak 4" flare = stock and 6" is 2" more than stock. With this being said a 4" BS wheel with 12.50" wide tire under a 6" Metalcloak flare would still stick out about 0.5" or 2.5" outside of a 4"/stock flare.

I found the wheels I want but are 3.75" BS, I'm wondering how much of a visible difference that extra 0.25" BS will really make. Needless to say it won't be CT legal until I get the MC flares as we require full tire coverage. I could probably get by with an inch or so sticking out in the long run without any problems. My main concern is spray while wheeling or even street driving with doors off and the skateboard look

I dont think it will look to bad.
This is a 33 x 12.5 on a rim with 3.3" backspace (almost a 1/2 inch more then the 3.75)

What do you guys think of these?

I've only found 1 pic of the black and silver ones, it was on a YJ. 3.75"BS is what I calculated from the -19mm offset

That is member Beer30's nice looking Jeep.
