Helping My Son who is Deployed

I am trying to help my son with his 98 Jeep Wrangler while he is currently deployed. I am not that familiar with Jeep's and trying to not bother him with questions. We just had several repairs completed and a 4" lift put on his jeep. NOW we need tires and rims. Can anyone give advise regarding the sizes, clearance issues, etc? I know that he wants 35" tires and black (flat/powder coated) rims.

I would appreciate any help. Thank you!

33's and 4'' lift are perfect. With you have there. (4'' RC lift right)

Without trimming the fenders or bumpstoping the heck out of it. 35 will rub the fenders some. A 1'' body lift will take care of that.

What specifics are you wanting to know about?

Can't really help you with your question but wanted to give props on your mission for your boy. Kudos man. Very cool.

as distorted said 33's are a great choice, and when you get into the 35 and up sizes you really need to look into axel swaps and a few other things to be safe.

This is his primary vehicle so I am assuming he will need an all terrain tire. Is that correct? 33" tire sounds like the best option since we have not changed out axels. Is there a better tire choice? I have found some combination sets (wheels/tires) for under $1600 on the web.

umm as far wheels go you have a few things to look at, if he offroads a lot or just a daily road driver is important as well.. dont get cheepo rims because they will break easier..

I have momo metal rims and BFG all terrain tires and I also daily drive my jeep as well as off road quite often and I love my setup, not so much the chrome rims but i can change that...

Well before you think you need a new rear axle check to see whats in there you might be lucky. Go crawl under it and look at the pumpkin. If there is a sort of rubber or plastic plug its a dana 35 which I would put 33's on at a maximum. If its got a metal drain plug its a dana 44 which is just fine with 35's. Like others said 1.25 inch body lift and trim the flairs a bit and youd fit them. But then you would need stronger steering and better brakes. You would have to start thinking about gears then as well because the 35's will make it reallllll sluggish.

Also tell your son that we all appreciate what hes doing for all of us.
