Hercules Trail Digger M/T's are wearing down way too quick

So my friend got a "deal" and got 5x33" tires and 5 ProComp wheels from a small shop about 6 months ago. The tires are the mud terrain version of Hercules brand, Trail Digger M/T. He's been doing 99% asphalt driving. The tires are at 3k miles (he hasn't rotated yet) and the rears are severely worn down. No chunking of tire. No cupping. Just worn. Down to about 12-14 /32nds by my best estimate. They're halfway or more done. Unreal. I don't see what could be causing that besides a very very soft compound.

I have 35" Goodyear MT/R's that came with my jeep. Had 15-16 when I got them. They're down to 9-10/32nds after 12k miles. 95% asphalt.

Doesn't add up.
