Level 8 PRO's Lessons Learned.......

Hello All,

I purchased a set of Level 8 Bully Pros from My local Discount Tire in December of 14, shortly after, DTD contacted me about the Zinc washed bolts corroding or rusting prematurely, My wheels were fine, but DTD sent me out 5 new sets of hardware, which I thought was great, the other day I looked at installing the new hardware, noticed all the washers were corroded also, again Level 8 and DTD took care of me, along with some cool swag, thanks guys!

till today!

Today I got out to replace the hardware in the wheels, now I didn't build up the wheels, the tire changers at my local store did, what I'm now realizing, which I didn't think about before is, the wheels are aluminum, the bolts are I assume are CRES or a soft steel, when the wheels were built up, no antiseeze or corrosion protection was used on the bolts, did I mention the bolts are soft,

I worked them back and forth sprayed them with WD-40 trying to get them to loosen up, I've got most or them to turn but, I broke 2 in one wheel and so many in the other I've had to remove the ring on one, note: using a 1/4 ratchet for removal,

so the new ones were going in with antiseeze compound but I've stopped for today, I'm going to spray the other 2 wheels and let them sit for a couple of days,

lessons learned, if you own a set or are going to buy a set of Level 8's or the NEW MB11's they have a rock ring too, I would add a antiseeze compound to all the bolts, if not when you go to change them you'll have broken bolts, many of them, and another thing is these are dissimilar metals, also a corrosion factor,

just a little FYI,

So has DTD changed the rock ring bolts to a different metal or instruct installers to put these together with anti seize now that this issue is known?
Thanks!

Nothing has been changed with the Level 8 Pro Series. The included yellow zinc plated bolts are utilized to help limit corrosion. Unfortunately, the original zinc bolts that were included when the wheels first came out weren't all zinc plated. Nonetheless, Steve68 makes a good suggestion, a tiny amount of anti seize on the first few threads of the bolts should make removal easier.

I'm not sure why Level 8 has not added the Pro Series to their website yet but to your question, they are still alive and well Let us know if we can help you with a set.

Are you still doing quotes on wheels/tires?

If so, can i get one for 5 17" tracker pro 5 in black with ko2 285/70r17. Load D and load E to compare?

I have load E KM2s and might go softer.

You can get KO2 in load range D in that size? Main reason I'm not getting the Ko2 is the E load range, (2door JK).

The 285/70R-17 KO2 is only offered in LR-E at this time.

I just checked BFG's site and I don't see a 285/70R-17 LR-D listed? Am I missing something?

I would not worry about the D vs E load rating. I have posted this several times, but it's not an issue. I have the Tracker Pros with BFG KO2 and at 35 PSI the tires are the least of your problems if you are looking for a soft ride.
The Bully Pro wheels are great.

If you go to this page. http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/tire-...ire-sizes.page

Under metric lt, they have 285/70r17D and 285/70r17E. Both of those include the KO2.

Interesting, I've never tried searching their site that way. When you actually click the tire it displays LR-E in the size description. Good catch nonetheless; I'll pass this along to our BFG Representative.

The Bully Pro wheels are great.
It's not the ride I'm worried about but how well they flex. I drive in the sand a lot and want a tire that will flex and give great floatation but still work for snow, rocks, mud and highway. I know, "I want it all". The stock KM tires suck in the sand even at 12psi. They just want to dig down instead of riding up on the sand. Add to that poor wet traction and you get why I am looking for something better.

Thanks!

I'd say no, but with three coats of clear and antiseeze, after a mild winter on the Eastern shore of VA, bolts are shinny, rims look good, still a fan,

might need bigger tires one day, Matt, hint hint,
