Lightweight and strong 15x8s? Do they exist?

I was all set to order a set of five 15x8 Soft 8s this weekend until I started reading about how heavy they are. Apparently, a 15x8 is upwards of 32 pounds! Wheel itself! Put a 33 mud tire on there and that's gotta be another 60 pounds of unsprung weight. I know from taking my tires and wheels off (aluminum wheels, 33 Wild Country) that they are probably 75-80 pounds. This can't possibly be good for the axles, can it?

I know in my sports car days, the rule was to keep total weight at each corner at 25 pounds or less (assuming 12-13 pounds for the wheel and about the same for the tires). Of course, that was going on a road course or track where the tires get hot but never take the constant abuse of being slammed into rocks and other debris.

So, the question...

Is there a light weight wheel in 15 inch x 8 inch that is also relatively cheap (say, under $100/side) and is also durable? I know, I know.. pick two. What if price wasn't a limit? Is there such a thing as a light weight and tough wheel? or is my only hope of retaining toughness to stick with a simple but heavy wheel like the soft 8?

Denis

Have a look at the MB 72. They are aluminum and roughly 20lbs. However, you are looking at about $100 per wheel, not per side.

$100/wheel isn't bad. When I said "per said", I meant all 5 sides (including spare). I'll check those out!
