Mounting Prices

I know a lot of online retailers will ship tires directly to the shop you’d be using for mounting, but does anyone include mounting/balancing in their prices (as well as shipping)?
Also, what can I expect to pay for mounting/balancing a set of 33’s (305/70/16)? I bought my current tires used, but I don’t remember what I paid? I think it was something like $20/tire.

Send a message via Yahoo to dawhitesJKU
$20 per tire seems about right.

Dang, I hope a good chunk of that price is for TPMS stuff, as I will not be needing it.

Good to know, I'll have to call around. The last time I had it done, I went to Midas, as they were right up the road and I had been there before for a couple random things and they were very helpful and honest.
FYI, I brought in a flat on the rim and they fixed it, but didn't have a way to charge me because they needed a VIN to associate the charge with. Same thing happened when I had a spare mounted, although that time the guy asked if I was paying cash or credit. When I said cash he shrugged his shoulders and said "ten bucks?", which I was fine with and he likely pocketed, but I don't care.

Just checked my old credit card statements, it was $82 w/ tax the last time I had 33's mounted.

I'd have a local tire shop give you a quote on what you are looking at online, you might be surprised. They can generally get pretty close.
My last set I bought online and I won't do it again, pain in the butt.

Mounting Prices

Just outside Chicago, I just received quotes today (1/19/18) and the prices are:
Discount tire: $19 MB + $60 TPMS per tire
Just tires: $35 MB + $85-$90 TPMS per tire

Quadratec: $175 for 5 TPMS

Install shops are making a KILLING on TPMS!

also be aware exactly what they are doing TPMS wise...
are they swapping old ones for $60 or having new ones installed
I've gotten some high quotes for swapping

and yes ,installers have a huge overhead in sensors

Mounting Prices

My take off wheels have no sensors. The prices I posted are to put sensors in the wheels.

Did you mean huge profit instead of overhead? If I can buy 5 <$200 and they're charging me between $300-$500, that's profit.

Longtime customer around here doesn't carry as much weight I guess. In the past 5 years, I've had a shop do three sets of tires for us. The manager still gave me a hard time regarding price-matching direct buy from Goodyear online. He kept telling me that not only would he price match any verifiable install, he would beat that price. In the end, no matter how he tried to move numbers around, his out the door price was higher than the price it will cost me from Goodyear online using their preferred installer.

Needless to say, I'll be driving 10 miles to the Goodyear installer instead of driving 1 mile to that shop. Because in the end, I'd rather drive and be slightly inconvenienced to save $200. Price match my (you know what).

Please don't think I'm calling out the shop unfairly. I've spent around $4000 there over the past 5 years. I worked with them for a couple of days to get them to price match so they had every opportunity to match the price from Goodyear online but they argued with me every step of the way. Even when I provided them all of the information they requested via email and screenshots of the Goodyear price, they still "couldn't/wouldn't" match the price.

This is the same reason I stopped using the local independently-owned Goodyear shop next to my house 5 years ago and went to the other shop. They say their policy is to price match yet they WILL NOT DO IT. And BTW, I did give the local Goodyear (independent) shop a chance at mounting these tires. Even though they have a price match policy, they told me they couldn't do the job for the price from Goodyear online through their recommended installer.

maybe profit window is a better term
shops don't make a lot of money mounting and balancing tires.
hard to balance tires eat into any profits.
only places to make money other then tire sales is valves , stems and TPMS.
most of these they get in bulk or at cost
