Got my "new-to-me" Jeep home on 12-30-10.... A Blue '97 to join my Maroon '02...
225/70R15 (rusty) American Racing Wheels

Dropped it by my buddies tire store yesterday, before church....
He calls me this morning and tells me the tires are JUNK (already new that)...
rims are OK, but not so pretty...

Not wanting to break the bank, I asked him what we could do as far as tires... Good Tires
He came up with 235/75R15 (GoodYear Wrangler) is what he came up with...
It's going to be Daily Driven Toy... Not an Off-Roader, but you never know...

Then he threw out that he could get me a great deal on a set of Rims... 15"x8" Eagle Series 186 ($75/ea) includes, lug nuts & center caps...
For Alum. Rims this seems like a great deal to me.
I like the look of them, too...

He's been doing this for 20+ years... so, I'm certain he knows what he's talking about...

What are your guys' opinions about putting a 235/75R15 on a 15"x8"?

According to the charts I've seen online, the 235/75R15 will fit on a 15x8.... Open to thoughts and suggestions...

Why not size up to a 31x10.5 for them? They'll fill out the wheel well nicely and fit well on that wheel....

Good looking wheel and $75.00 per wheel for aluminum is a sweet buddy deal.

I'm with InfernoGirl, go with a 31x10.50R15. See if your buddy can order up a set of Falken Wild Peaks. They have a 50K warranty and they shouldn't break the bank.

Here's what we sell them for right now: Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

30x9.50R15 is a pretty affordable size. When will you have them?

Post some pictures of your new Jeep Bob. We want to see it.

Talking

It should be tomorrow... pics will be forth coming...

Talked to my buddy, Chris.... about 20 minutes ago....
the rims showed today (UPS) and he had the tires in stock...

the rims & wheels are mounted now... they were just getting it set on the alignment rack when we talked...
told him tomorrow is fine.

I only got 4 of them, but told him that I would be ordering another rim & tire in the next couple of weeks...
I really hate not having a spare (presently, temp spare hanging on back - just like not having one) and I feel it's important for the spare to be the same size as the jeep.
I just wanted to make sure that the new rims would fit the spare tire mount before commiting to buying #5.
He has agreed to sell me #5 rim & tire at same price...

the 30x9.50x15 was more than the 235/75r15, but they will have better traction and definitely have a cooler look... just hope they aren't too noisey on the road... But then again, it's more of a toy than daily transportation...

Here are my new rims & tires...

I love the LOOK.
I have not driven very far with them yet, but I hope to check them out tomorrow...

I think wider flares are in order...

i am wondering... will my 30x9.50x15 fit on back of my '97?

rim #5 as well as tire, are ready.....
the guy said, he'd take my 3rd brake light off and toss in the back seat.
does it really have to come off? hoping not...
I did ask him to see about leaving it on there...
said he would try.

any thoughts?
if no responses... I guess I'll find out tomorrow..

Before I replaced the rear bumper and tire carrier on my LJ, the 31x10x50R15 stock tires and wheels fit on my stock tire carrier without needing to remove the light.... Your new wheels look like they have a lower offset as well. This should push more of the tire out and actually give you a little more clearance that I have with my stock wheel and tire shown here.

Here it is stock:

My 31's fit on mine fine too... If for some reason the light doesn't clear you can extend it with some pvc tubing....
