NEWBIE Question: LIFT and TIRES (Larger Wheels)

Holiday Greetings...

I know I am gonna catch heck from JEEP Purists/Old heads but here goes...

I got a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited (see pics) with 22" rims and series 40 tires (I think)

Newb question:

I want to replace the "street" tires with off road type (Nito, etc)

What kind of Lift (Brand and height) would I need to:

a) nice stance

b) be able to fit the darn thing in most garages...(about to move)

Note: this is not my DD...weekend fun car

((putting on my bullet proof vest in anticipation of feed back)

Well, you know the saying about opinions..Here is mine. The jeep came with 17" rims as stock so if you put 17"s back on you will lower the jeep a couple of inches. Generally any lift kit over 3" one has to look at lowering the transfer case due to the change in angle of the drive shaft. Also may need to get brakeline extensions. Do some research by getting in with a local jeep/off-road club. Call and talk to the techs at Quadratec and 4WD.com....they are fairly helpful. Hope my armpit wasn't to bad and was somewhat helpful.
I run a 4WD.com 2.5" lift stock#KIT493303 as my first mod.

You might post this in the JK section, they will probably have more answers for you.
