Rim and Tire Thoughts Please

Morning All!

Ok, so my YJ had a 3" BL when I got it. I just recently added at 2.5" RC lift that I think I got 4" out of...and now my 31's look like the spare donuts......

I have 7" of space between the top of the tire and the bottom of my fender flare, and 5" of space between the side of the tire and side of the flare....so I'm thinking I can clear 35's no problem.

Here's where the confusion sets in: I have been told that 35x1250's have to be mounted on 15x10 rims. I have 15x8's! However, i see package deals from desertrat.com that has 35x1250's mounted on 15x8's. So can i keep my rims or no?

Next comes backspacing? what the hell is backspacing? i read that on a different thread in this column but don't really understand if I should be worried about it. Don't want anything to rub, so i guess the answer is yes. what do i need to look for here.

Finally, gears. ibuildembig and i have had gearing conversations before regarding going to 4.56's with 33" tires. I'm thinking with 35's I may have to upgrade to 4.88's. Yes / no? I am assuming i'm running the factory 3.07's now and already have resigned to the fact that 5th gear is out of the question once i get the tires on until i regear.

Ok so there you have it. This jeep has turned into a sickness of mine, but dam is it ever fun!

Thanks for the thoughts. I appreciate it.

I have 4" Rc lift and 33's on mine. I had thought about 35's but it would have been a tight fit. 15x8 rims are fine with the correct back spacing(amount of space the rim is away from the mounting surface.. to little and the tire with rub to much and well it looks goofy. Here is a bad pic of mine with the lift and tires.. rims are 15x8 on 4" of back spacing. I am located in the cinti area if ya need more help just let me know.

I have 33 x 12.5 with 4 inch back space and -18 offset on 15x8.5. You should be able to run 35's on 15x8's

thanks guys for the responese. looks like i'm going to go ahead and get a complete package from discount tire. i think it'll be similar to what 4jeepn posted........which looks sweet by they way, so i'm pretty excited about that.

I will have to ask about the backspacing just to be sure i don't get any rub.

thanks!!!!
