rims & wheels for a 2008 Sahara Unlimited

Hey all! OK, now I've read several posts about this topic already but am still undecided and not exactly clear on sizes..
I have a 2008 Sahara Unlimited with the stock 18" wheels and Dueler 255/70/18. The tires are pretty worn, so the dilemma is, new tires, which cost quite a bit for the 18" rims or do I go and get smaller black rims (15 or 16's with 5x5 bolt spacing) like I want and get some chunkier tires?
Not sure about the width and whole backspacing stuff, so I don't want to just buy rims and tires without knowing they will definitely fit without rubbing or any extra work done to get them on... And no, I do not want to lift it..
Thanks for all the help, any is appreicated..
Love the Forum!!!

RG

I'd say drop down to 15 or 16" wheels. You will save money on the cost of tires and the wheels themselves. I'm not one to talk to about backspacing so I'll let someone else do that. However, if you call someone at quadratec or 4wd.com, they have always been willing to help me with questions, I'm sure they will help you out as well.

If you like the look of the stock wheels, I've got some 17" ones that I'm willing to sell relatively cheap.

Another alternative is you can always paint your wheels black or coat them with bedliner. Lots of people on here have done that and they look pretty good.

Thanks Chris.. Definitely looking to get 15's or 16's and some bigger tires, although I've read some threads saying watch if you buy 15's because some will not fit over the calipers on the JK's. Hopefully the guys at 4WD can answer my questions as they have a set of wheels and tires I'm checkin out..

They were great when I talked to them and patiently answered all of my questions. I ended up going with Pro Comp 52 16x8 wheels and I love them.

Good luck.
