RR wheel spare tire? / and TPMS

Hello, I was curious if anyone knows if I will need the larger spare tire bump stops, like Daystar's if I run with the Rugged ridge aluminum wheel 17x9 /

Also, TPMS - DT said they could swap them out for me. My dealer said that would never happen and they would break ( that they are one-time per wheel sensors ).I find it hard to believe at $60 each, you could not change them..
curious if anyone tried to swap the factory one's or should I leave them off and just use an AEV Procal to turn off the light..

It depends on the backspacing of the RR wheels, but most likely, you'll need the Daystar Bump Stops. Your stock wheels have a bs of 6.25", which is very tight against your tire carrier (and Jeep). You want the RR to be about 4.5" bs or less (the smaller the number, the farther your tires will stick out), to work with bigger, fatter aftermarket tires.

So yeah, get the Daystars.

Your dealer's full of it. DT can swap em, no problem. They're actually attached to your valve stems. No problem. You might want the Procal anyway, since aftermarket tires of 33" should only be aired to about 30-32 PSI or so (tire shops and the dealer will overinflate em, most of the time). Also, the Procal will be necessary to recalibrate your speedometer with the 33's...

Just saw this last part about the offset. That would put those rims at 5.47" backspace, which is probably gonna be kinda tight for a tire that's almost 11.5" wide.

I would advise you to read the following thread, and make sure you're not gonna have problems with rubbing.

Largest tire on stock JK? Here's your answer!

Good luck with it.

Thanks KBB / appreciate your help. I will not let my local Jeep dealer touch my new wheels. Also, I looked up the rugged ridge wheel. shows 12mm offset, and 4-5/8" back spacing ( doesn't quite add up ?? ) / I do have an AEV-2" leveling kit installed on my Jeep..

Hmm...maybe check with the tire shop. 12mm offset on a 17x9" wheels translates to 5.47" bs. If it was –12mm I KNOW it would fit.

And yeah, I wouldn't mess with the dealer. Maybe the guy who told you the TPMS sensors were "one-time only" didn't really know, but I find that hard to believe.

Okay, just looked it up. It's –12mm backspacing. So you're good to go!

Here's where I got the info from:

Rugged Ridge Satin Black Alloy Wheel by Rugged Ridge

Here's the info from the site:

Part Number: RUG15301.01

  • Satin Black
  • 17” x 9” Wheel size
  • -12mm offset
  • 5x5” Bolt Pattern
  • 4.75” Back Spacing

Love that wheel, by the way. I would have gotten that one if they'd made it in the size I needed.

Thanks - I need to check with rugged ridge, their website shows 12mm, 4-5/8" BS, and a few places that sell the wheel state it as: -12mm / maybe the MFG> website left off the (-)..

I'm fairly positive those wheels are -12 offset, so you should be good. You certainly may need the bumpstops. I did with my 4.5" backspaced wheels and 285s.

Hello, I just checked with Rugged Ridge and here is what they sent to me ( I am guessing since they only mfg 1- 17x9 wheel offset, and I have seen them on wranglers I will be ok )

this message below is
from Rugged ridge tech support;
Marc,

The wheels have a +12MM offset, which makes the backspacing
approximately 4.5".

Thank you

Well, that is just flat out wrong! Like kbw said, that would put the backspace at 5.5. One of their numbers is wrong! I found this thread over at JK-F where a RR rep states that the backspace is 5.5. I can almost guarantee you that the offset it -12, making the backspace 4.5. Drives me nuts when employees don't know their own products!

Check out this thread where someone has the RR wheels mounted up with DTs.

^ I know what you mean, kinda like when you make any major purchase and you(the buyer) knows more than the salesperson.. I am in sales myself and have been for a very long time. When a situation comes up challenging me on what I sell, I talk to my engineer team and find the answer...

I think this "tech" person just looked in the catalog, without researching anything.

Thanks again
Marc

My wheels just arrived, about 3 days early. I have to make my tire decision a little sooner now. / 5 Rugged ridge wheels satin black 17x9, and 5 rim protectors at my door..

I really want to order some Dick Cepek Fun Country II's. Discount tire ( and another tire store )
said I would be better off with Duratracs ( amazing how many people like this tire ) . DT said if I go with them and dont like them, they will take em back...
