Tire and wheel size opinions?

I'm in need of new tires for a 2012 JK. I'm looking at 2 options

17 inch wheels with 285/70/17 tires that are load rated D

16 inch wheels with 285/75/16 tires that are Load rated E

Is there any major difference that you notice that would warrant the extra $300 to get 17 in wheels for a D rated tire vs the E?

Either way whatever size wheel I get id probably get duratracs.

Thanks!

the major difference is the tire selection and future brake upgrades. Big rotor upgrades/Big Brake kits need a minimum of 17" wheels. As far as the D/E rated ... ride quality is not very substantial. E rated are just more firm.

Id shy away from the E rated tire no real need unless you have a real heavy jeep, I have them and I think the ride quality is not that great,

I am in the same boat and I have been researching the same question for a while. I have come to no conclusion. Some say E's are rougher, others say they don't notice.

I currently have Mickey Thompson atz e rated. I don't have a lot to compare to unfortunately but they are def the roughest ride I have had. Going for c or d rated shortly

I'm buying the Mopar winter wheels in the 17x6.5" size and 34x10.5x17 tires to go with them. The tires are the D rated BFG All Terrains.Nothing fancy.

I had a set of Cooper AT3's in C rating and BFG KO2's in E rating on my 09 and we are running D rated snow tires on her 15 and I can't tell the difference. It's a Wrangler, they all ride like a buckboard.....
