Tire Replacement Warranty??

If you buy tires through Discount Tire, do you buy the full replacement certificates?

I always have, but the cost for 5 now is about the cost of one tire. If I say no, and then only ever ruin one tire, I'm even. If I ruin more than one, then I'd be ahead taking the certificates.

What do you do?

Thanks!

I've never had to make a claim.... But of course the time I don't buy the warranty, I'll need a new tire

How many tires have you had to replace in the last 60k miles of driving because of damage.

In the last number of years, only one. Going way back, I had 3-4 separations on way old BFG KOs, but that was many years ago. The tires seem much better made now.

Most tire mfg. have their own warranties, and good tire stores will work with you. I have found that DT isn't so discounted after you pay for all their high pressure add ons. You might check out Costco for a special order of what you want.

Negotiate for the replacement certificates as part of the tire deal. What is the worst that will happen...
I have seen this being a very negotiable item.

Ended up finding an advertised lower price for the tires on DT Direct Ebay Store with a flash sale additional 10% off.

Then found an advertised lower cost for the certs which made them 33% off, at DT Direct online.

Got the 5 tire set with certs for a little less than the online advertised DT cost at my local DT. The local guys took care of me, but it shouldn't be a shell game.

Wow! Saved $338, got the tires, got the certs. I'm happy!

I buy the certificates. Never had to use them till recently. Popped one of the Michelins on my Dodge truck. New tire was ~$300. My cost due to it being prorated was $37 with certificate. Very pleased with the service!

My thoughts are with 5 you wouldn't need the protection. It's about the same cost for a fifth tire (with the wrangler forum $50 discount on 5th) as it would be to buy the certs. Then if you are adding it to your rotation and one goes bad you have one that is equally worn to replace it vs a brand new one.

As long as a vindictive ex doesn't slash a hole in all 4 tires, I would skip the replacement certificates.
