Tire Size Questions

I am new to jeeps and forums. Bear with me if i ask some stupid questions.
First: I just bought an '08 wrangler unlimited w/16" steel wheels. I am asuming rubicon rims/tires would bolt right on w/o clearance problems?

2nd: Can i buy 15" rims and run 32's on them. I don't see many JK's with this combo on the web---Help?

Thanks

I don't know if 15's will fit your jeep. You would need to test fit to make sure the rims clear the calipers.

The general rule of thumb is, stock gearing is OK for up to 32's, 33's & 4.56's, 35's & 4.88's

If you have a manual trans you don't need to re-gear as soon. 33 and even 35 inch tires with a manual trans and 3:73 gears is not a big issue, you just won't be using 6th gear much.

Your 16's will fit 255/85-16 tires; get a mudder and it will be bigger than 33". More than enough tire and a good bargain to boot.
Rubi wheels will certainly fit too but the rubber for the 17's will cost more.
You most likely have 3.21 gearing which will start to feel awkward with larger tires if you have any hills on your local highways or secondary roads. I'm running a real 32" tire and have 4.56 gearing; will go to a 33" next.

Actually the stock 16"x7" can take up to a 265 wide tire.

I was referencing the 255/85-16 tire because it's the only 33" that safely fits the 7" wide rim. The best bang for the buck.

The only tire I see in that size is the BFG mud,, nice looking tire, but I wouldn't want it on my daily driver.

BFG Mud Terrain T/A KM2
Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain
Cooper Discoverer ST
Interco TRXUS MT
Summit Mud Dawg (AKA Maxxis Bighorn)

The Discoverer ST is the only AT in that bunch. Nice tire.

If it is a manual trans you can still use the same size tires as the 3:73 or 4:10. First gear will be a little tall, and you may need to down shift from 6th on upgrades, but with a manual you control when it shifts so gearing is not as big a deal.
