True 33's

I'm in the market for some new tires and I'm reading about tires that run small.

What is a good all terrain that runs true to its list size?

Thanks!

Virtually ALL tires run short.

My "33" Cooper AT3s are a true 31"

So if you want a true 33, buy a 34 or 35.

Two sizes to look at that are true "33" under vehicle load:

285/75/17 and 305/70/17 both on paper are 33.8" and under load run ~33.2".

35" km2s run really small. They might be a 33.5-34" mounted. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head

What specific tire are you talking about?

My 285/75 "33s" are a true 31.

I had no idea that the true size is so different. I've got 31" bfg ko's on my jeep now and will be bumping up to 33" of some sort. The 31's look too small and I was worried that the 33's will too if they're actually closer to 31". But now I'm thinking that they should look fine, considering my 31's are probably actually smaller than that

Just because that is printed on the sidewall it doesn't guarantee that the size is true..

Like I said, my 285/75 Coopers are only 31 inches tall, regardless what they put on their website. In this case, mine are supposed to be 32.8" tall according to the Cooper site but is in fact barely 31" tall!

As stated, virtually all tires run short. There might be small variations by brand but don't think you are getting a true 32 or 33 by believing what is printed on the sidewall.

Take a tape measure to them and I would put money on it that ther are under 31", more likely, probably 29.5-30"!

You should read my first post in this thread I clearly said "under load" I said nothing about on paper specs of the numbers molded into the side walls. I stand by my "under load" numbers. You might be the exception with your Coopers but it is not the general findings (Google it ) with 287/75/17 and 305/70/17s.

You hit the nail on the head. 29 and some change inches. And I measured my best tire. That explains a lot

The best thing to do is look at what people in your area are running and get measurements off their setups. You will find some brands tend to run shorter than others though you will also find, with rare exceptions, all are short. Don't buy into the "xxx/xx" runs true to size unless you measure it yourself because I guarantee, they don't as a whole.

I'm guessing you're also running a 15" wheel and want to stay with that, right?

Cool deal. Post up pics when you do end up getting your new tires.

What Cooper tires do you have? I did not know they made a 285/75/17, only 285/70/17s.

Duratrac 285/70/17 mounted on 17x9 wheels = true 32

When looking at paper specs, take into account what is the width of the wheel in which the tire was mounted, for example Goodyear reports their 285/70/12 are 33's if mounted on a 8.5" wheel. mounted on 9" wheels and under light load (JK 2 dr and no aftermarket bumpers or winch) I get 32...

I wish I read this thread a couple days ago! I just put on Nitto G2 325/60/18 which I thought would be 33" but are actually 32" installed. They still look great, but not much bigger than the 31" stock tires I took off. Think I'll be going for 35's next time.

+1

True 33, will be 34 or 35 - so look for 305 or 315. in my case Duratrac 315/70/17 are 33.75" confirmed by the measuring method using a level Plus the procal calibration and GPS speedometer.

My Duratrac 285/70/17 are 31 7/8 measured and 31.75" for proper procal and GPS speedometer calibration.

the issue to face is that while tires are not true to their diameter they are true to the width so you end up with a very wide tire in the case of the 315/70/17 and that requires more BS, creates impact on axes, etc. Pizza cutters are usually good to be true at 33 and not super wide.

As much as I hate to say it, tires have been put on hold. My Jeep isn't really running right now, so I have to get it straightened out before I throw new tires on. I'm having OPDA issues and I'm not sure how much it's going to cost to get it fixed and running right again 👎🏼

Interco tires are close to the stated tire size. Take a look at their size charts - their 33" tires run OVER 33" in size!

BFG KO2s on 17x8.5 285/70R17 pretty darn close to 32.75 inches under load... 30psi. Less than 1k miles on them.

Check out the website tiresize dot com. They have a great calculator that shows the difference in tire size. It is pretty slick.
