Valve Stem Caps.. Worth the bother?

It seems that we are always losing valve-stem caps. It usually happens only when my wife helps with airing up/down, but that's another discussion.
Today I decided "fugit", I'm going valve-stem-cap-free and not going to bother replacing them each time SOMEONE loses one.

What do I risk by going without the caps? I thought they might be a deterrent to vandals letting the air out of my tires while parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot, but they never slowed me down as a kid. I can see how they would help keep out mud and sand, but nothing a quick blast of air couldn't take care of.. So, is my Jeep going to explode, or worse, if I dont bother with the caps?

I would say the issue that arises is when you do not blow them out prior to filling the tire allowing some dirt or sand potentiality getting stuck. Causing the value stem to leak some.

But in all reality your probably okay without them.

They make some that has a ring attacked that you push over the valve stem, therefore not losing them.

Just go to Walmart and buy a couple of packs of caps and toss them in the glove box. Problem solved.
YMMV, and invariably will...

in the winter a freeze can release the air.
summer... caked mud can block the valve.

many more reasons. the only reason to not put the valve caps on... lazy
