Will I Stick Out? Width/Backspacing Question

Hi all,

I prefer not to have my wheels stick out from my Jeeps fenders. I have a '13 Wrangler Unlimited. The stockers are 17x7.5 with 6.25" backspacing. The rims are either 17x8 with 4.5" backspacing, or 17x9" with the same 4.5 inch backspacing.

Now, the way I figure it, the 7.5" rim width and 6.25" backspacing puts me at 13.75" (total). The 17x9" rim with 4.5" backspacing puts me at 13.5", slightly further under the wheel well than the stockers. The 17x8" would then be 1.25" further in under the wheel well.

Am I calculating this correctly or are there factors I'm not considering?

Thanks.

i dont think your logic is right. But it looks to me in both cases your going to be out of your fender flares 1 to 1.5 inches more than stock (i could be wrong). If you look for old threads several of the threads have a diagram that explaines the relationship of - off set, back space and wheel width.

You're correct. I had the backspacing backwards: "The more backspacing, the more the wheel is positioned into the wheel well"

Newbie mistake
